Here at Wilderness Way we have finished our re-model project on the street-side of our building! To see the final photos and construction views of our new image, click here. Our goal was to have a nice grassy area between the store and the street, with trees and plantings to surround the mural on the back of the building. We believe this new look not only helps improve the appearance of the building, but will greatly add to the look and feel of downtown Soldotna. This project underscores Wilderness Way's commitment to preserving the environment and adding to the value and livability of our community.

Bear Deterrent 'Pepper' Spray by Counter Assault
Sorry, we can't ship this to you due to the HUGE HazMat charges that would result, but you can pick them up in our Soldotna, Alaska store for your Alaskan outing! We call these three sizes the 'doggy' size, 'Black Bear' size and 'Brown Bear' size, but they are all the same Oleoresin of Capsicum made from Mexican chili peppers that were way too hot for salsa! The 3 oz 'OC-10' is a 'fogger' spray and really designed for use against human assailants. This is a good anti-dog size, but because of its limited range, NOT recommended for Bear deterrent use! The 8.1 oz (middle) size and the 10.2 oz size are both 'stream' shooters and are the same height (about 8 1/2"), but slightly different diameters. Both are designed for Bear deterrent use, sprayed into the face of the bear in 1 or 2 second bursts at about 12 to 18 feet. The larger size has slightly greater range and, of course, more 'shots,' and both come with a belt loop nylon carrying case. New at Wilderness Way! Rent a bear spray cannister by the day or week! We are really excited about our new Bear Spray rental program! Beginning this summer we will be renting out bear spray cannisters by the day or week. So if you're worried about bears, but hesitating about the cost of buying a bear spray cannister for a single hike or camping trip, this is the plan for you! For a very reasonable cost, you will be able to carry the safety and peace of mind of bear spray protection along with you. (If you use the spray cannister you will need to buy it from us, but as long as you don't spray or lose the cannister it will be just a moderate rental fee.) We hope that this program will allow for greater safety and more peace of mind, especially among the visitors to our area who can't easily take a cannister home with them even if they bought it.
