Shipping Information
Most of our customers come into the store to buy, but we are able to ship our goods anywhere you would like us to! Because of our more remote location, shipping charges are often the limiting factor on where you will want us to ship to. But for those of you in our local Alaskan communities, especially some of the bush communities that cannot easily receive shipments from the lower 48, we can help! We do everything we possibly can to keep the shipping cost of your order to a reasonable range, and we do not 'pad' our shipping and insurance fees. You will only be charged the actual shipping and insurance charges for the shipping method that you have specified.
The shipping method we use depends a lot on the size and weight of the item, and often we find that priority mail is an economical alternative. FedEx 2-Day Economy takes 3 days from Alaska, but we get a very good discount rate which we pass on to you. The discounted cost is generally a bit more than U.S.P.S. Priority Mail, but the insurance costs are less, so FedEx 2-Day makes sense for more expensive items. Though we can ship FedEx Ground, the cost is about 3/4 the cost of FedEx 2-Day with our discount, and the service is usually slower than U.S.P.S. Priority Mail.
We don't get much of a discount from United Parcel Service, and the rates tend to be higher than our discounted FedEx 2-Day rate, so we generally don't ship via either UPS 2nd Day or UPS Ground to the rest of the U.S. unless you specifically request only UPS service. For shipments to all areas of Alaska that are on the road system, UPS Ground is very cost effective and efficient.
U.S.. Parcel Post (3rd Class) is not recommended from Alaska because it takes 3 to 5 weeks and gets very rough handling.
